The special focus for this meeting will be Health, Wellbeing and Safeguarding for Sports Clubs and their members.

We are pleased to invite all sports clubs and related organisations in Dacorum to attend this special meeting organised by Dacorum Sports Network as part of our ongoing support for local community sports clubs and organisations.

This meeting has a specific focus on issues relating to Sporting Health and Fitness, Maintaining Wellbeing and Safeguarding for clubs. It is therefore hoped that you will extend this invitation to whoever within your club is likely to find this content to be most appropriate. e.g. Safeguarding Officers, Coaches, Junior Section Organisers and Club First Aiders. There is no limit to the numbers who can attend from any club.

The agenda

The proposed agenda (which may be subject to some modifications) is outlined below. There will be a bar open throughout the meeting. There will be a number of FREE BLOOD PRESSURE MONITORS available for distribution to clubs attending the event.

Thursday 2nd October – Hemel Hempstead Town Cricket Club

6.45       Registration and Bar Open

7.00       Welcome from DSN (Andy Criddle) followed by:

  • Kevin Hallahan from NHS Herts will provide training on Blood Pressure monitoring and the benefits of doing so for those involved in sport, including young people. Kevin will have a number of blood pressure testing machines to give away to clubs on the night.
  • Justin Honey-Jones at Hearts for Herts – on the risks of heart attack in youth sport, and the value of sports clubs having defibrillators and of making those publicly accessible.
  • Bobs Fox from Herts Sport & Physical Activity Partnership – on the Sport England funding of Sport Welfare Officers and the support they and HSP are able to provide to clubs in improving safeguarding, welfare and best practice. HSP will also talk about the forthcoming Year of Disability Sport.
  • Huma Abbasi and Chris Fennell from Dacorum Borough Council will talk about funding opportunities from DBC including sports bursaries for training; and also update on other relevant DBC initiatives (incl. the Funding of Sports Centre refurbishments and the Active Leisure Strategy which links Sport to Health and Wellbeing ).
  • Loretta Anderson from Community Action Dacorum will provide information on how CAD can support Sports Clubs in relation to Health, Wellbeing and Safeguarding.

The bar will be open throughout the evening and although the meeting is scheduled to finish around 9.00-9.30, the bar will remain open for 30 minutes after the meeting to enable networking.

 Parking may be limited at the Cricket Club depending on weather. If the parking area on the second team outfield is wet, it will be unavailable. Parking is available on nearby Park Road or in the Town Centre car parks the other side of the Magic Roundabout.
